Dear Members of the SB Press: 5.9.07
COLUMN ITEM/CHIT CHAT FODDER
Djanzabian Dance Foundation
company was just here in Santa Barbara at the Marjorie Luke Theatre
on Saturday, April 24, in it's "Welcome to Persia" concert.
Local critics praised the work. Three sections of the
original multidisciplinary drama "Rumi: Path to Enlightenment," choreographed
by Anna Djanbazian, were included in the evenings program. The piece
is inspired by the 13th century relationship between a wandering
dervish and a Sufi mystic. After the performance at the Luke, I
commented to her on how powerfully the three "Rumi"
sections affected me, Artistic Director AnnA Djanbazian told
me it is the next dance program she wants to bring up to Santa
Barbara.
"Rumi: Path to Enlightenment" won
"Outstanding Performance by a Company," at the
The
2007 Lester Horton Dance Awards, the most important
award in dance held in Los Angeles over the weekend. This is one of
many Horton Awards she has received.
Now, when "Rumi: Path to Enlightenment," makes its way to
Santa Barbara it has the added accomplishment of winning the top
award in the dance world. Brava to Ms. Djanbazian and her company of
dancers.
